The short version

A proper C-segment sedan, for B-segment money

Proton has expanded the 2026 S70 line-up with two new variants — the Lite and the Prime — both now on sale. The headline is the price: the Lite starts at RM59,800 and the Prime at RM62,800 (OTR without insurance), which pulls a full C-segment sedan into the same budget as a well-equipped Saga or a mid-spec Myvi, without shrinking the cabin. A RM3,000 launch rebate and a 2.35% interest rate are being offered during the launch period.

New heart, same body

A naturally aspirated 1.5-litre i-GT engine (120 PS / 150 Nm) with an 8-speed CVT replaces the turbo + dual-clutch setup of the pricier variants — tuned for smooth, fuel-efficient daily driving.

Safety kept in

Six airbags, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-side radar system carry over — supporting blind spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert.

Everyday tech

Three drive modes, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, an electric parking brake with auto brake hold, remote engine start and a reverse camera all feature.

Lite vs Prime

Two ways into the S70

Both share the same NA 1.5-litre engine, CVT and core safety package. Proton has confirmed that equipment levels differ between the two — the full split will be revealed at the official launch.

What the new powertrain means for you

The Lite and Prime take a different route to the rest of the S70 family. Here's how the two setups compare — and why that matters for the kind of driving most people actually do.

Lite & Prime

  • Engine: 1.5-litre i-GT naturally aspirated
  • Output: 120 PS / 150 Nm (same engine as the new Saga)
  • Gearbox: CVT (continuously variable)
  • Character: Smooth, linear, low-maintenance daily driving
  • Best for: City commuting, families, first-car buyers on a budget

Existing S70 variants

  • Engine: 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged
  • Output: 181 PS / 290 Nm
  • Gearbox: 7-speed wet dual-clutch (7-DCT)
  • Character: Punchier, more responsive under acceleration
  • Best for: Drivers who want stronger performance and don't mind paying for it

Worth knowing: the Lite and Prime do not get AEB (autonomous emergency braking) or adaptive cruise control — those Level 2 ADAS features remain exclusive to the turbocharged Flagship and Flagship X. Both NA variants do keep the Rear Side Radar System, which covers blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, door-opening warning and rear collision warning.

How is it different from the current S70?

What's the difference between the Lite and Prime?
Both share the same 1.5L NA engine, CVT, six airbags and Rear Side Radar System. The Prime adds automatic LED headlights (the Lite uses halogens with LED daytime running lights), leatherette seats and steering wheel, single-zone automatic climate control, front parking sensors on top of the rear units, and larger 17-inch alloys versus the Lite's 16-inch. These details are based on Proton's announced feature list and will be finalised at the official launch.
Does it have AEB or adaptive cruise control?
No. The Lite and Prime come with cruise control and the Rear Side Radar System, but autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control remain exclusive to the turbocharged Flagship and Flagship X variants.
How much power does it make?
The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre i-GT engine produces 120 PS and 150 Nm — the same unit used in the new Proton Saga. For comparison, the turbocharged S70 variants make 181 PS and 290 Nm.
